Real World Skills

Many students benefit from learning practical life skills.  Classes can range from skills such as gardening, meal preparation and cooking, managing money, handling taxes, basic sewing, financial responsibility, Earth Day Environmental projects, First Aid and Safety awareness, care for pets, etc.

Community Involvement

For students, getting involved in their local community can be incredibly beneficial – not just for the people and places they are helping out, but for themselves too! By learning about different causes and getting hands-on experience with real-world problems, students can gain valuable skills such as problem-solving and communication and build relationships with community members. It can take many forms, from animal shelter volunteering, helping the elderly, or even participating in a neighborhood clean-up day.

Social Skills

Providing students with opportunities to become better communicators and collaborators sets them up for future success.  Social skills is a great way for them to practice empathy, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and communication.  Learning these skills through role reversal, random acts of kindness, games like scavenger hunts, and other activities enables children to communicate more effectively and compassionately with confidence.

Brain Breaks & Fitness

During the day students may need brain breaks or movement to re-focus on longer lessons.  Educational brain breaks are a powerful tool that can transform the classroom experience. Designed to give students a brief mental and physical reset, these short activities restore energy, boost focus, and reduce stress. Students can enjoy movement to music, games, puzzles or simply stretching during this time as well as other options.

Gardening

Gardening can sometimes be a favorite activity for kids and teens. Even though there is a bit of work up front, it’s so fun to see something you yourself have grown! Most obviously, this can build a great deal of patience. This can also be extremely rewarding and even act as a coping strategy to see something grow over time.

Students can work on planning while listing out ideas for a garden, choosing what we want to grow, and designing a map for where to grow each item, also researching what conditions different plants need. Gardening helps build a sense of accomplishment and connection to nature.
